We don’t have a formal audition process but as a general guide, we consider that a player who has reached Grade 5 is likely to be able to cope with most of the sort of music we play, which presently tends to be principally Overtures, Concertos and Symphonies from the Classic, Romantic (and occasionally Baroque) periods, but with other orchestral pieces thrown in from time to time.

One or two of our members are professionals who, in some cases, still teach. Others are perhaps one time music students who earlier in their life had professional training but then went on to do other things.

However, for the most part the orchestra consists of enthusiastic amateurs of all ages for whom the repertoire is sometimes quite challenging but - it hardly needs to be said - without such challenges, one does not improve.
